ATTRACTIVE LATERAL PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - EXCELLENT SEATTLE LAW FIRMS
Tax Attorney Partner, Only Small Book Required, Any Location
Innovative, but selective and relatively small national law firm with very low overhead, seeks to add a Tax Partner to the firm to be the entire firm's U.S. Corporate and Partnership Tax partner.
This firm already has several highly regarded State & Local Tax, Estate Planning, and International Tax partners, but they need a U.S. Partnership Tax expert.
Candidate must have very strong Partnership Tax experience, and also M&A Tax ("deal tax") experience ideally with Silicon Valley or hedge fund client exposure. Corporate Tax experience is also desired.
Candidates must have a small book of portable business consisting of at least $250k, and must have had previous experience at a large and/or very highly regarded law firm, accounting firm or corporation. This firm comprises a group of top notch attorneys who all have worked at top law firms or corporations prior to joining. Firm prides itself on its cohesiveness and ability to share work with others (almost 30% of revenue comes from shared work). Overhead is lower than any well-regarded national firm that I have heard of which comprises only about 30% of the attorney's collections.
Attorneys can work in any of the firm's approximately 14 offices located across the United States, or they can work on their own in virtually any city in the U.S. even where the firm presently does not have an office.
This firm has a whole slew of high-technology, high-growth and also blue chip company clients originated by the firm's very successful corporate and venture finance partners, some of whom practice in the firm's Silicon Valley, New York and Boston offices. So, the tax partner that joins this firm should expect a lot of great referrals.

Opportunity for Top Attorneys with Portable Practices to Work and Live in any City in the World at Innovative and Prestigious National/International Law Firm.
Access to fantastic international client base and tremendous attorney support in numerous practice areas.
This firm was founded about 5 years ago by 2 Ivy League graduates from one of the most prestigious international law firms based in the United States. Its business model is very attractive to attorneys who are seeking an alternative to the “Megafirms” but it is an equally attractive alternative to the smaller one office shops that can’t provide the cross-selling/referral business opportunities, prestige, bench strength, depth of client base (ranging from Fortune 100 companies to sexy technology start-ups), international scope and access to large and/or exciting clients.
Those who seek an alternative to the “Megafirms” will appreciate the much lower overhead, flexibility to work from any location, opportunity to bill your clients at whatever rate you desire, as well as its clear, transparent and objective compensation policy that strips away the politics. Any attorney hired with 10+ years of legal experience and at least $500k in portable business will be made a full partner. Say goodbye to other attorneys at your firm being made partner or getting better compensation merely because he/she is better liked, is in the “right” practice group or received unwarranted high and “guaranteed” compensation which was used to lure them there. Say goodbye to being required to collect $500k to $1M or bill 2,000 hours just to cover your overhead or make partner. Say goodbye to your firm’s prohibiting you from representing certain clients because they won’t pay outrageously high billable rates. This firm has no billable hour requirements and gives their attorneys complete latitude as to what to bill their clients.
Those who seek an alternative to the smaller shop will appreciate the opportunity to cross-sell, refer work, network, and pitch business with some of the top attorneys in the world in a tremendous variety of practice areas. No more uncompensated referrals to attorneys at other firms. No more concern from prospective clients that you and/or your firm don’t have the expertise in various practice areas, depth or national/international scope to handle their matters. No more inability to reach better clients because you don’t have many contacts or your firm is too small, unknown or too regional.
The firm prides itself on its ability to assist and facilitate its attorneys to share work and share clients by cross-selling both their clients and legal expertise. As proof of this, nearly 30% of the entire firm’s revenue is generated from the sharing of work among attorneys as this is strongly encouraged, incentivized and facilitated.
Here are a few of examples of the types of attorneys who are presently Partners at this firm and the types of clients they represent. Some attorneys are Silicon Valley insiders who are based there and have represented many of the household technology names in the SF Bay Area. One of these attorneys is also very active in the “secondary markets” of private stock, representing sellers of restricted stock inTwitter, Facebook, Zynga and and other pre-IPO companies.
Another Member, based in New York, is a hedge fund expert who was the General Counsel for a hedge fund management company with approximately $800 million in assets under management. He has structured and helped launch a number of hedge funds including European and Japanese Funds.
A third attorney, also based in New York, focuses on business transactions in the natural gas and electric industries, and provides business counsel to a broad array of emerging companies, primarily in the sustainable technology space. He has guided energy companies through IPO’s in the U.S. and internationally. His other clients include those involved in the following additional technologies: compressed air, pumped hydro; storage technologies; solar; wind; alternative fuels; biomass; coal-to-liquids; fuel cells; and waste-to-energy.
A fourth partner is a patent attorney who was formerly the Chief Patent Counsel to two publicly-traded technology companies.
A fifth attorney is a trademark attorney who was formerly the most senior trademark attorney at a Fortune 100 company.
A sixth attorney is a trial lawyer specializing in sophisticated commercial and IP (including patent) litigation with over 70 trial victories and a 90% success rate in trials and arbitrations.
Examples of the top firms and companies that these attorneys have practiced at include: Wilson Sonsini, Ropes & Gray, Coudert Brothers, Lehman Brothers, Orrick, Merchant & Gould, Foley & Lardner, Howard Rice, Abbott Laboratories, Deutsche Bank, Robertson Stephens and Wasserstein Perella.
With some possible exceptions, all candidates must have at least 10 years of legal experience, $500k+ in portable business, must have once practiced at a large national and/or highly prestigious law firm or a large or well known company and graduated from a top 20 ranked law school.

ATTRACTIVE LATERAL PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - EXCELLENT SEATTLE LAW FIRMS
If you are an attorney, group of attorneys or small firm with a portable client base, there are several unusually attractive opportunities that have developed recently in the Seattle area for attorneys that might have divergent goals. Perhaps your current situation is not ideal for any number of reasons such as: the overhead is too high; the firm is not as profitable as it could be; the firm culture or overhead requires too many billable hours for your lifestyle or not enough billable hours to make it more profitable; the firm doesn't reward productive partners sufficiently; it isn't the ideal platform for your practice; there aren't enough cross-selling opportunities, etc. Many different practice areas are desired by these firms, however, some are not currently sought after, such as family law and plaintiff personal injury.
